
Posted by StriperChaser on January 9, 2005, 9:45 am Buggs Island Bait and Tackle, (434) 374-8934, reports no significant changes from last week with striper, all bass, catfish and perch fishing very slow. Crappie are good down to eight feet of water on small minnows and jigs. Outer Banks Leonard Nuchols reports fishing has started to pick back up with the southwest winds bringing in warmer water from the Gulf Stream. Cape Point had a good bite Tuesday evening where Red Newman landed two stripers over 40 inches with his biggest at 26 pounds to give him 28 for the season. Fred Steinke also landed a 40-inch striper. Cape Point also is producing good catches of speckled trout, puppy drum and a few black drum. Michael Hobson of Mechanicsville landed his first ever speckled trout that was 5½ pounds at Cape Point to make him the winner in the Anglers HQ Tournament for the speckled trout category, winning a custom-made trout rod. Hatteras Inlet has had catches of stripers where Thelma Noble landed her first ever striper that was 32½ pounds and was 46 inches long. Michael Hunt of Richmond landed a 2½-pound speckled trout at Hatteras.
