Ranger Ricky Smith was on his way to work at Singletary Lake Group Camp when he discovered a 14-foot fiberglass fishing boat in a ditch by the lake's gate around 7:30 a.m. "It's about the strangest thing I've ever found down here," Smith said. The older model boat fell off a truck while being pulled down N.C. 53 in the early morning hours. The boat hit the shoulder of the road near the main gate at the park, and skidded into a ditch, sustaining heavy damage. The owner apparently gathered up his fishing equipment, motor, and anything else that was salvageable and left the scene. He even left part of his catch, two small flounder.
