
Posted by StriperChaser on January 9, 2005, 12:55 am The board identified two potential sites for the project: a spot fairly deep in the park, which Clarksville favors but which opponents said would call for the cutting of 100-year-old trees, and another spot closer to the park entrance, which some felt could be troubled by noise from a planned highway. The lodge would have 90 to 110 rooms. Even though some state parks have lodging and conference halls, the Occoneechee center would be the largest private operation in the parks, state officials said.

A state panel yesterday endorsed a proposed lodge and conference center in Occoneechee State Park along Buggs Island Lake in Southside Virginia.
