Coastal fishermen carefully plan trips based on information provided in lunar tables, more commonly known as tide charts. They have learned where favorite species locate at various tide stages, and it is there that they can hopefully ambush a daily limit.
Inland fishermen and hunters rely on a different chart. It is called a solunar table which helps predict when fish (and game) activity will peak and wane. Both tables take into account the changing positions of the moon, sun and earth. These changes bring about a corresponding change known as gravitational pull. The effect of gravity is used in the calculations to determine the times indicated on the tables. If this sounds complicated, it is. Tables can be useful, but should not be totally relied upon. Instead, anglers should be aware of the surroundings. A change in location or technique should be primarily based on what one sees, smells, hears, and feels.
