If you think about it, these parasites moved pretty fast once striper fishing became so popular. 1000% increase in tournaments, fishermen traveling from lake to lake, state-to-state carrying bait / water from infected lakes. First the Tenn. lakes / reservoirs, then Smith Mountain, then it naturally moved downstream to Kerr, and so on. They got into Lake Norman and how many other lakes. Funny how most of the smaller striper lakes were unaffected but the bigger, higher profile lakes were. It all seemed to happen over a few year period. I’d say the odds are pretty good the fishermen themselves unknowingly spread these parasites. Just a theory, heck maybe the birds carried it. I just hope this research pays off. After this summers fish kill on Buggs, makes me wonder how much it really has affected this falls less than normal striper fishing from years past. How many stripers really died in Buggs this past summer?
