Friends: This is a call to action for all those who care about our fisheries and who want to support their restoration. CSPA, after much thought and analysis, is urging you to log onto our website and sign our petition to oppose the Legislature's last minute Delta Bill Package & the Peripheral Canal.
Below, you will find more information about the petition and how to go to our website and sign the petition. After you have done this, please cut and paste this request into new email and send it to as many of your friends as you can! Together we can make a difference if we let our State Legislature know of our concerns.
Thank you for helping us save what was not so long ago our world class fisheries! I apologize for any cross posting, but better that than failing to reach you!
John Beuttler

Go to our website to sign on the Petition: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Peripheral/
By signing this petition you will be stating your strong opposition to the “Delta Bill Package.”
The following is a summary of why it is critical to do so. If you would like more information please log onto our website where a number of documents await you review. To get the short version, attached is a pdf that summarizes our analysis.
A LAST MINUTE Delta Bill Package is being rushed through the legislature in the final days of the session without adequate opportunity for public review and comment.
The Bill Package would establish a committee appointed by politicians that could authorize, fund and build a Peripheral Canal without legislative or voter approval.
The Package fails to provide requirements and enforceable standards for fishery restoration NECESSARY to realize the recovery of all the fisheries dependent on the Delta. If you think fall run salmon will soon recover without flow standards that are enforceable, think again! The fisheries of the Delta and its tributaries require restoration programs now, not just promises!
The Package guarantees water for west San Joaquin Valley agriculture, while ignoring the toxic drainage from lands that undermine the Delta's ecology, imperils its fisheries and its degrades water quality.
The Package weakens environmental law by making water for the environment and fish a “coequal goal” with water exports to the lowest priority water contractors when more water has been promised for export than actually exists.
The Package would overturn existing water law and nullify California Supreme Court decisions holding that protection of the Delta's environment and fisheries are superior to water exported from the Delta.
The Delta Bill Package places the future of the Delta's ecosystem and the fate of its fisheries into the hands of a seven member Delta Stewardship Commission, the majority of which are appointed by the Governor without any qualification requirements.
Our petition in opposition to this fatally flawed bill package urges our elected representatives in the State Legislature to oppose this ill-considered stampede and to establish a thoughtful process that provides for adequate oversight and opportunity for meaningful public involvement.
This petition will be sent to all of the legislators in both of the state Senate and Assembly via US Mail and e-mail.
After signing the petition the program used to enable the petition takes you automatically to a donation page. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DONATE TO HAVE YOUR NAME RECORDED ON THE PETITION.
