Hi all,
We just finished the eighth and final week of tagging striped bass. As usual, we captured fish in fyke traps out of Knights Landing and drifting gill nets out of Antioch.
Because of boat problems in our Delta smelt-centric surveys, we had to cut back on gill netting. Someone vandalized some of our traps, so we had less fishing effort than usual and called it a day early.
In 29 trap-days we captured about 244 legal-sized and about 85 sublegal-sized striped bass.
In 22 gill-net sets (each about 30 minutes) we captured about 126 legal-sized and 13 sublegal-sized striped bass.
We tagged 2,336 striped bass this season, which is about 1/2 of what we've done each of the last several seasons. Most of that difference was due to scarcity of fish. We'll quickly produce an end-of-season report with many more details and I'll post a link to it here.
Thanks
