Hi all,
We just finished the seventh week of tagging striped bass. As usual, we captured fish in fyke traps out of Knights Landing and drifting gill nets out of Antioch.
Because of boat problems in our Delta smelt-centric surveys, we had to cut back on gill netting.
In 36 trap-days (i.e., 9 traps fishing 4 days) we captured about 409 legal-sized and about 184 sublegal-sized striped bass. Bycatch included a few American shad and a couple of small white sturgeon.
In 23 gill-net sets (each about 30 minutes) we captured about 113 legal-sized and 4 sublegal-sized striped bass. I didn't get a bycatch report.
In the traps we recaptured 1 striped bass we'd tagged April 1st at Shads Landing. That makes three in-season recaptures. Pretty amazing.
Thanks
