The following is a press release from Congressmember
Fuller's office regarding community meetings in Kern County. If you don't think the media machine and the Department of Water Resources are gearing up to set up the peripheral canal - it is time to become aware and get involved. At a minimum, each member of CSBA should be contacting their elected officials as well as financially supporting organizations like the California Sport Fishing Protection Alliance in order to put up resistance to these well-coordinated efforts to remove the majority of the water from the Sacramento River and the Delta. Don't leave it for the other guy to take care of - Dave Hurley

FULLER TO HOST MEETINGS IN KERN RIVER VALLEY
Assemblymember Jean Fuller, (R-Bakersfield), will host two
meetings in the Kern River Valley on Friday, April 17th. The first
will be a public forum to discuss fish stocking of the Kern River
by Department of Fish and Game. The second forum will focus on the
looming water crisis in California, which is already plaguing much
of Kern County’s agricultural industry.
The Department of Fish and Game was sued by the Center for
Biological Diversity and the Pacific Rivers Council, the
plaintiffs claiming that the DFG's stocking program was causing
irreparable harm to the environment. The judge agreed with the
plaintiffs, and ordered the DFG to comply with the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). DFG Staff Fisheries Biologist
Jim Starr will join Assemblymember Fuller to conduct a question
and answer session with local residents.
The second meeting will be a public forum on the current statewide
water crisis. As is evident in the Central Valley, California is
facing a water shortage that threatens our economy and quality of
life. Assemblymember Fuller would like to work with constituents
to ensure that taps never run dry, and farmers and cattlemen have
the water they need to supply our $27 billion agricultural
industry. Fuller will be joined by Jose Faria with the California
Department of Water Resources. Faria is the Supervising Engineer
of the South Central Region Office’s Special Investigations and
Regional Planning Branch.
