I was disappointed yesterday at the Assembly hearing on these two bills. Hopefully you will recall Assemblywoman Wolk made a commitment to us to do something to protect our fishery and Delta at the Prospect Island fish kill hearing. Well she kept that commitment by authoring AB 1806 and AB 2502.
As I looked around the crowded Assemblyroom I only saw three other members from our Association there. One was there to represent the Recreational Fishing Alliance. Oh did I mention the crowded room, it was crowded by water contractors from all over the State there to oppose these two bills.
She mentioned to John Beuttler that there were also far more letters opposing the two bills than in favor. It seems like not only did the water contractors show up in force they took the time to write.
How can we expect to win if we don’t fight? The room should have been filled with members from our Association just like it was in Rio Vista for the fish kill hearing.
As the bills move forward more letter writing will be required and we should also be at any future hearings to show our support for Assemblywoman Wolk and the two bills.
If we lose I guess we will have no one to blame but ourselves and our apathy.
