Hi all,
The State's budget situation is putting a crunch on the research and monitoring we do. We hope to address some of the consequences by asking for volunteers.
We are getting ready to tag adult striped bass near Knights Landing and near Antioch. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me directly. Please don't PM me, because that it to hard to manage.
Here is the work and what we need.
Between 4-7 days a week we will tend fyke traps fishing in the Sacramento River near Knights Landing. The crew will be 4-5 people, including a boat operator and taggers. The volunteer(s) will be taggers. The work is physical and some people get bored doing it. We work from a small pontoon boat and use 1-2 trucks on the shore. It gets hot, you get covered in spooge, and most of the crew have to scamper up and down levees many times a day. You also get to see and handle all sorts of fish, including sturgeon and huge stripers. I personally love doing it.
Up to 4 days a week we will use gill nets near Antioch. The crew will be 3-4 people, including a boat operator, a deckhand, and taggers. The volunteer(s) will be taggers and/or deckhands. The work is a breeze and some people get bored doing it. We work from an old 32 footer and a very new 42 footer. I personally enjoy doing it, but prefer working the fyke traps.
So, this is the committment we need. We only need volunteers who (1) can schedule large blocks of time and stick with the schedule, (2) are consistently polite and respectful, (3) are committed to safety, (4) will follow reasonable instructions, (5) can learn the necessary technical procedures, (6) have excellent dexterity, and (7) don't hate DFG.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me directly. Please don't PM me, because that it to hard to manage.
Thanks
