Posted by Jackson Chapman I would love to see the central valley farmers pay the going rate for water. The same rate that I and every household in the Bay Area to Sacramento pays. I would also like to see their feet held to fire for every discharge of toxic waste they dump into the rivers or ground water. Perhaps if they were made to drink that water they would properly treat it. If the farmers cannot compete on the global market then I do not believe that the state should support them by selling them water and land below market values and turning the other check when they violate pollution law after law so they can export rice and cotton and sell subsidised produce at home. That was tried in Russia and did not work very well. It is called Socialism. AG is a multi-billion dollar industry only worried about the bottom line. They could give a shit less about people or the environment. They are only worried about how many politicians they buy off and how much money they can make. I say eat Mexican tomatoes and if that puts the central valley farmers out of business then they are unable to compete on a global market place and that is called capitalism. Viva Mexico! Jack
