Posted by red on 5/24/2006, 1:41 pm This is as important as it gets for our fishing interests. We need letters from everyone on this. Jim Martin has been nominated by the Governor for the next seat on the PFMC. This nomination is no small task to achieve. The choise is be between Jim and 2 Commercial Fishermen. This is my letter to Gutierrez Dear Secretary Gutierrez Please appoint Jim Martin to the up coming seat on the PFMC. Jim is a private recreational fisherman with over forty years of experience on the water. He has been active in California fishery politics for many years. As Vice President of the Salmon Restoration Association of Fort Bragg, Jim volunteered with the local business community to raise over $100,000 for the Hollow Tree Salmon Hatchery on the Eel River. He currently serves as a Groundfish Advisor to the Pacific Fisheries Management Council, as a member of the Mendocino County Fish & Game Advisory Commission, and on the Statewide Interest Group of the Governor's Marine Life Protection Act Initiative. Jim has been the West Coast Regional Director of the Recreational Fishing Alliance since 2004. The RFA is a grassroots, national saltwater sportfishing lobby founded in 1996. He serves as one of five trustees for the California Fisheries Coalition, which was formed by more than twenty recreational and commercial fishing associations to actively engage in the MLPA Initiative.. Author: How to Fish the Mendocino Coast; a Fisherman's Guide to Wild Seafood (2004). Or it can be as simple as: I support the appointment of Jim Martin to the up coming seat on the PFMC. Jim is experienced in fishery issues, and will be an asset to the PFMC. Send to The Honorable Carlos Gutierrez and please cc: Dr. William Hogarth After you send your letters off, please post it, or something as simple as-- letters sent–so we know the response. A voting seat on the PFMC is a real voice in Fish Politics. This is what we have been asking for, for years. Lets make this opportunity count
