Sorry Mark, I know sometimes when I write my posts, I respond too quickly with my first thought in my mind, and probably am not rational enough in writing them out. I see what you were trying to say now, with the $5 figure being a national average, and I'd definitely agree with you on that. It sadly always seems I see cigarettes over $5, even in lower-tax states where cigarettes aren't quite taxed sky-high.
I just know the day I ever travel to Missouri, Virginia, South Carolina, or any other state where the cigarette tax was 60 cents or below, I'd probably die of shock seeing how cheap cigarettes were. Although 98 cents in Illinois and 99.5 cents in Indiana is still absolutely fine with me, considering the fast-spreading trend of states that tax cigarettes at $2 or $3 a pack.....*cough* Wisconsin *cough*
