Good luck Allan! Dooley is opposed to a smoking ban. However, Dooley does have some political troubles, so I don't know how he'll view the option of vetoeing it.
I think there is a chance that the proposal will fail, assuming it does get on the ballot. As I have described all too many times on this board, St. Louis County in recent years has seen public smoking on the decline. I'm starting to hear some backlash against increasing government intrusions into private activity. Whether this translates into opposition to government controlling public smoking is a toss up in my mind.
I can assure you that if the proposal gets on the ballot and fails, there will be recrimination from the antis. There will be many public statements that failure was due to ignorant "hoosiers"* voting against it and decent people failing to get to the polls and vote for it.
*Hoosier is a word used in the St. Louis area by city people to denigrate anybody who's southern, Protestant, and/or rural. It doesn't mean people born in Indiana. You don't want to get called hoosier if you're in this town.
