I think the problem is...

the Sentry suffers the same problem as any heavy-hitter on a team such as Thor or Superman. There powers are watered down somewhat to keep them from automatically ending threats they can face on their own. With Sentry it is worse because he was originally made to be so powerful that any story with him that does not feature some kind of skyfather as a threat would be ended in two seconds unless they toned down his powers.
