Posted by AJ on June 23, 2007, 7:37 pm, in reply to "Re: Different Sentries" I do prefer the confident, strong Sentry, but I think it's important that we still see him struggle and doubt himself. The Marvel Universe is full of flawed heroes, and if the Sentry were to always fulfil his potential he would be too much like Superman and the Golden Age DC Super-Heroes. I say keep the mental problems and differing personalitoes, but also show some development in the character as he begins to overcome his problems and gradually becomes more confident... until the inevitable return of the Void! I agree that the Sentry has been portrayed inconsistently, but I think you could argue that his mental problems mean that sometimes he will act one way, and at other times completely differently.

: Totally agree. Silent War (and his own mini
: series) portray him as a confident veteran
: superhero who is cautious about using his
: powers, but totaly confident in his
: abilities. Bendis has started this trend of
: portraying him as an emotional wreck that
: needs constant support to make even the most
: basic decisions. Why god why?
:
: I prefer to think of the Sentry as someone
: who was once the most important hero on
: earth, but has lost it all since discovering
: the nature of the void and himself, and is
: trying to rebuild his life. The idea of
: someone who kinda 'got off the hook', but is
: still haunted by past revelations.
: Hopefully the next time they do a limited
: series, they will address this more

: Maybe Sentry has MPD. The characters in
: World
: War Hulk, Mighty Avengers, and Silent War
: called Sentry all seem to be different
: characters. WWH? He's just now being
: integrated into heroic society and is THAT
: radically different out of costume? MA?
: Super powered doofus. SW? Seasoned warrior
: and effective. Can we just have one please
: (and not the doofus, okay?).
