Basically from what I gather, the Sentry has all of Superman's powers with the apprent ability to control light. His powers are also limitless making him possibly the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe.
To me he is a Superman for the new millenium. Not a boy scout. Hes Superman with mental problems, with real world problems. He is also a normal man who becomes the Sentry, hes not an all powerful all good alien pretending to be a normal guy.
My favorite superhero.
