hey!
sounds like either a Chow or an Akita. Akita's are Japanese dogs (heh, rather fitting) that are usually white, black or a combination. My cousin has an Akita that was a beautiful black, but it had silver undertones, kinda like black silk. the rare Akita has been seen in shades of brown.
More likely, tho, its a Chow (or Chow-Chow). They have pretty much the same build but different colorings, and I think the Akita's are larger.
