Mitchell MI"
I found some interesting info in Graydon Meintz Michigan railroad books volume 1 and 2 and the book that covers counties O-Z. Near crofton MI and Stimson it has a Mitchell junction listed at an unknown milepost. Supposedly according to info I found on the net Mitchell and Cobb lumber company had many Spurs that branched off the GR&I railroad back in the early days. Once the lumber was exhausted in an area the tracks were torn up. This would explain why there is no branch line listed in Manton MI that went to Mitchell. I'm guessing that it wasn't in existence for very long before being pulled up. I did however find a small spur that leaves the mainline just south of Manton that goes up along What looks like a shop or storage shed of some sorts. It appears this little switch track continued across the road and into the woods east of Manton as there is a narrow paved lane that goes back into the woods. Could this be the old line to Mitchell. . I followed it on google earth and found what seems to be a straight tree line and sumtimes a corridor between the trees that runs out to the area where Mitchell's is said to have existed. It's very faint though in spots but I think it could be it. Wow geat an elusive rsilroad branch.
