Re: Essexville Oil and Interchanges
The Tank Trains on the GTW were for Consumers Power in Essexville. The train was set up with blocks of cars (5 to a block?) connected by hoses. If there was a bad-order car, they had to set out the whole block, not just the single car. As far as interchange at Mershon, they usually sent a job over from Saginaw yard in the evening with the interchange. I don't remember for sure, but the Crossing Job (CX) may have grabbed the GTW interchange on occasion. Normally they came over the bridge and went south on the West Shore Spur to work, then later shoved back to Mershon and we lined them north across the Ludington Sub to shove up the Zilwaukee Spur. Then they came back south over the diamond and shoved back across the bridge into the yard. Paul D answered your question about the Elmdale Sub through trains. When I first started dispatching they were only running 59/58 and those became GR87/SA88.
