I was told by my older brother that during World War 2 he and some other boys collected railroad iron from the abandoned railroad route just South of Loon Lake. Any scrap iron was collected for the 'War effort'.
Another tid bit of recall was the need to pick up a block of ice for your cottage 'ice box' in Hale. The then still standing RR freight house (1940's era), was where it was stored and sold from.
