The “Operating Bulletins” show what a challenge these specials were for the AA. Did the AA have automatic block signals, or did the signals referenced in the Bulletins refer only to operator-controlled ones at open stations (Milan, Dundee??)? Also, did Jerry P. himself make the drawing shown on the web site for the episode in his “Classic Trains” photo? Thanks!
When I first arrived for grad school in Madison, WI (1968), the Milw. Rd was still operating football specials for UW games. Discontinued by the time Amtrak took over. How I regret not photographing them! I believe there were some private cars in the consists, along with cars from other RRs. At time I didn’t realize how soon this would all end.
