American Locomotive Company

I ran across something interesting recently. The American Locomotive Company also made automobiles for a short while, From their Rhode Island Locomotive Works plant in Providence R.I. they began making the French "Berliet" in 1906. In 1908 they started with their own design, the "ALCO." One of their cars competed in the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. They abandoned auto manufacturing in 1913 because it was unprofitable, but (obviously) continued making railroad locomotives.
Their plant manager in 1911 was none other than Walter P. Chrysler.
