There was a double track siding on the north side of the plant that would handle 4 cars each. I think they could only reach 3 cars each with rollers on the dock. Six days a week the local would come pull cars and leave more. For as long as I was watching, GTW used 40 foot refers to load canned milk. The refers were for dedicated use for the Carnation ("return when empty...). I presume they were using refers due to the boxcar shortage. Boxcars (usually foreign roads) full of new cardboard boxes were unloaded from the same sidings. When I was twelve, it was a lot easier for me to "help" with the empty boxes than the full ones. I don't know what the actual carload totals were, but the place was busy for such a small town.
