Re: Classic Trains: Delray Article
Those were great articles. In my high-school days I spent many hours alongside or up in tower #1, a block west of BO tower in Kalamazoo. After school we could depend to see NYC #8, a passenger eastbound for New York. Often waiting for it was a southbound PRR freight crossing the diamonds, heading for Ft Wayne. Sometimes we would see #13 the NYC's westbound mail train but it was often late. That was my favorite because it was the only train that did not stop in Kalamazoo (all mail cars). We also might see any of the three NYC local freights returning from Constantine, Otsego or Dowagiac/South Haven. That depended on how long it took for their daily duties. The towerman would let us know if anything else was coming so we knew when to leave and go home for supper without missing anything. Life was great back in the previous century.
