I recall reading the Lapeer County Press during study hall at Goodrich High School in the mid '60's. During the spring grass fire season, the news would report that there were always grass fires starting along the ROW from Oxford to Otter Lake, from sparks from passing trains. I remember that during that time frame, there were still an average of 7 trains a day running the line from BC to Detroit. Unfortunately, the tracks went to poop when PC took it over, and the cost to rebuild just couldn't be collected.
