You have to remember that in 1902, it was just a proposed line. The actual rail line wasn't built until 1910.
As a side note, in 1902 there was a proposed railroad being, the Detroit, Pontiac, Lapeer & Northern. Their plans included going through Akron. The map you saw may have been their proposed route.
