I think just because of its lighter rail and extremely rural routing. Our C&O Elmdale Sub between Saginaw and Elmdale/Grand Rapids via Alma, Edmore and Greenville was also referred to as the Turkey Trail, mainly because of its many curves west/southwest of Edmore to Elmdale.
