Former H.J. Heinz Brining Station, SE side
Former H.J. Heinz pickle brining plant, NE side.
A string of refers in storage on the pickle plant siding (NW side), and other stored freight cars on the depot siding. If memory serves me correct, all of the freight cars spent a long time in place. I believe the building behind the boxcars was what was left of an elevator.
The C&O depot, boarded up. The depot was moved to Heritage Village at Montcalm Community College in 1995.
The line was built by the Detroit, Lansing and Northern as an extension of the Ionia, Stanton, and Northern, through McBrides Mill to Edmore in 1878. The rail line was abandoned by CSX from N. Greenville, to Edmore in 1988. It is now part of the Fred Meijer Heartland Trail which I try to get my exercise on.
