Re: kalkaska pulpwood back in 1969
It would have/could have went to the C&O at Grand Rapids. I remember a group of C&O PS1 boxes that were modified for pulpwood service and seen many a loaded one at Hughart so I must assume the PRR would bring them down from the north and interchange to C&O for forwarding to Muskegon.
The cars had the roofs removed and slots cut into the side walls. I think they also had chain and binders tied to the top of the cars to keep them from spreading out after loading. I would also assume the C&O furnished a percentage of the cars and PRR the other percentage for this move.
