Curious if anyone knows details on PC's departure from the region in the 70's, besides the obvious bankruptcy story.
In the before time, Saginaw/BC was services by the big three...GTW, C&O and MC/NYC. NYC came in from Detroit and Lansing and up to Mackinaw City. When PC went under, mostly everything deemed profitable went to Conrail, everything else went away.
I would assume that the powers at the time saw no interest competing directly with GTW & C&O in the region, so PC was ended. What was 'viable' in the region went back to current HESR and LSRC (bridges, spurs to active customers, etc.)
Was there ever talk of Conrail preservation to the region? I can't imagine that it would have went too far.
