Rule S-242 was operation by train register. There was a register book in a locked box at Poland. The conductor checked the book to be sure no other train was registered on the branch, entered his train in the book, and headed for Sandusky. Upon returning to Poland, he registered off the branch. The Port Austin Sub was handled the same way. The Harbor Beach Sub was Rule S-241 which authorized occupancy by Clearance Form A. On the Form A the crew received at Bad Axe or Croswell along with their running order there was a line filled in which read "You may occupy Harbor Beach SD per Rule S-241. Only one train at a time was authorized, unless handled by train orders. Bad Axe to Croswell was Rule S-97 supplemented by manual block rules, and running orders were required for this portion.
