This line is sometimes confused with the former DT&I Dearborn line, today the CN Dearborn Subdivision, which runs from Dearborn (Rouge Plant) to D&I Junction near Flat Rock. Both lines parallel I-75 at some point. The former PRR Lincoln line is closely visible to the highway from River Rouge to Southgate. The DT&I line, with concrete arches for long-gone electrification, further south. The two lines cross at a diamond known as Penford, southwest of Northline and Allen Roads. Superior Road crosses both lines at grade just south of the diamond. In the old days there was an interchange track here and a passing siding on the PRR, which Doug mentioned (thanks for the great recollections, Doug!). The diamond was replaced and signalling upgraded a few years ago, but I'd guess the PRR position signals were removed in the early Conrail era.
The Lincoln line continues to be a valuable shortcut for CSX and CR trains heading south. Penford is the only railroad junction between Carleton and Oakwood Yard.
