I had never looked at the DTE aerial photos for this area in Macomb County. The photos while not really clear shows a connection was possible. But clearly this line ran through a working gravel pit. Not exactly the type of track used for interchange, excepting sand/gravel service cars maybe.
It appears the major part of the mining was surface stripping. It seems they just moved the loading track across the site as each strip was played out.
That Lombardi Food track always struck me as odd. It just seemed strange to me that a railroad would have built that kind of industrial spur out in the middle of nowhere to serve a food warehouse. Now that I know it's origin, it was simply a spur that got re-purposed.
