My and a buddy sucessfully tracked the old PM ROW from East Grand Rapids all the way back to the old junction from the current CSX line just off of Eastern Ave in Grand Rapids. Some of it wasn't that hard to find, while some of it had been built up over the last however many decades.
We Came across, not one, but TWO Caboose at the Standard Lumber Complex, just sitting on rails next to one of the main wearhouses. Coudn't see any reporting marks on the outside one, and couldn't get close enough to the 2nd one to see anything. Anyone know the history of either of these? There was also a sign attached to the one of the wearhoues near the Caboose.. "C+O Frieght House"
So here are a few questions after tracing this line...
1) What year was the line pulled to EGR? I had to have been before 1950 I would guess.
2) What line were the Caboose from?
3) Was the line to Standard lumber removed later than the entire line to EGR?
4) Was there any sort of "Depot" or anything in EGR by reeds lake?
Thanks for any help! I think our next venture is going to take us to trace to old Penn Line from Grand Rapids up to Penn Junction.
