East of Hersey about 2 miles is traces of a spur branching off the main, going downgrade then making a sharp curve to the south, southeastern direction. There is quite an impressive steel girder bridge crossing over the muskegon river with the ties still intact and some even showing through the dirt on the roadbed. Have checked many maps and none show any evidence of a branch or lenghthy spur here. With all the gravel pits in this area either for aggregate or limestone??? this line must at one time have been projected to haul many lds out for the railroad for them to have built this large of a bridge. Its almost the size of the bigrapids bridge that spans the river just north of town. Does anyone have any info or pics of this spur or local shots in this area???
