The photo is looking south. The road to the right is US131, to the left is Railroad Street. The little depot sat very close to where the old one did before it burned down. It was between the Pennsylvania track and the BCRR track, between State Street and Lynn Street, just north of Elm Street.
When was the photo taken, well, let’s do some math here… My sister was born in 1973, and the photo below was taken several years before that. I’d venture a guess they received this loco in 1969, or 1970. If I remember correctly, the Duchess was used until as late as 1975 or 1976, so it could have been anytime during that span. BTW, the photo below is of my dad and myself looking over the new “old” engine that just arrived in Boyne City.
