The swap actually took place in Jan. 1983. The C&O traded their trackage in Ionia to the GTW for their trackage in Greenville. This allowed the abandonment of each of the branches. I don't know much about the Ionia industries but the GTW customers in Greenville were the two refrigerator factories (WCI and Northland) and an occasional boxcar of newsprint for the Daily News and bagged cement for H A Curtis & Sons Lumber Co. for their concrete block plant. CSX already served both of the refrigerator factories so they didn't gain much. At this time the Ore Ida Foods plant and Tower Automotive were still big rail users. I have the newspaper accounts of what happened if your interested. TN
