I don't think I ever broached the subject with my mother, I think I just picked up a razor one day and tried it out. She was a putz about educating me on girly things.

: My oldest I think was 14 (the summer before
: 8th grade.) Might have had something to do
: with band camp (first time hanging around
: boys regularly after they became, well,
: boys). My youngest is such a blonde that
: her leg hair was almost invisible, but when
: she made cheerleader in 8th grade she HAD to
: shave (her emphasis, not mine!) Otherwise
: what would the other girls say about her???
:
: My cousin and her best friend thought they
: had the answer when their mothers wouldn't
: let them shave in the sixth grade. They
: "accidentally" used the friends
: older sisters Nair and claimed they thought
: it was lotion, and tried to convince them
: that since they'd already removed the hair
: once they needed to start shaving
: already...as I recall that argument didn't
: work.

: I think I must have been older than that,
: although I don't remember for sure. Nair has
: never worked for me.

: My daughter's aren't very hairy at all, but,
: some of my friend's daughters were like
: little gorilla's in 5th grade.
:
: I started my daughters on Nair, taught them
: how to use it, because at that age one use
: usually lasts about a month.
:
: Then, when they hair grew tougher than the
: Nair, I taught the girls how to shave. Each
: of my daughters has their own razor and two
: totally different brands so their is no
: fighting about someone accidentally taking
: the other's stuff.

: My daughter is in 5th grade and will be
: eleven
: in just over a month. Over the summer she
: was mortified at the discovery of dark hairs
: on her legs, and now she's bringing up the
: subject of shaving. I hesitate to let her
: because I don't think she's old enough, but
: I have a tendency to forget that she's older
: than I want her to be!
:
: How old were you when you started shaving,
: or let your daughters start shaving? I think
: I was around my daughter's age, either 5th
: or 6th grade, or between the two. I know it
: was definitely before 7th grade. And she's
: MUCH more girly than I ever was. She's
: already begun perfecting her "runway
: walk" in HEELS no less, so she can be a
: model.
:
: Oh crap, I'm in trouble.
