And I'm so bummed out about it. To make a long story short, about two weeks ago, cameras were installed in our store. The images could be seen at our corporate office and at the CEO's home. Apparently, I wasn't providing enough customer service to our customers on Tuesday and I was apparently hanging around the counter too much (I was on register, so how was I supposed to ring up the customers if I didn't go to the counter??). So that's why I was fired.
It wasn't a set-up. It's just that my store is the only store whose computers have a DSL connection, which means that we were the perfect guinea pig for the camera set up. I didn't mind the cameras...I didn't like them, but I didn't mind them. My objection is to the fact that the CEO can watch us from home. And that's pretty creepy, if you ask me.
We got three phone calls on Tuesday telling us that we at the counters too much. Each time, we moved away. One of the things that we were supposed to do on Tuesday was to count the ladies underwear...which is right by the counters in four bins, three levels in each bin. How were we supposed to count them if we don't go by the counters?? It's just micro-managing. And their idea of customer service is to follow customers around the store, constantly asking them if they need help. I know, as a customer, it makes me uncomfortable to have an employee following me around. And we've actually had customers complain. But they don't care.
