Yes the unions have their faults and the player salaries are out of control, but I'll take the counterpoint on this one. The owners have been able to get unbelievable subsidies on stadiums... which is a transfer of wealth from every taxpayer, not just fans. The owners make tons of money, but it's never enough. Who is pushing for the 18 game season? Which in my view would be destructive? Not the players...
