Cory, on my short term comment about Thompson. I talk to some people in Wisconsin & a couple of them were thinking Thompson would be done when his contract was up in 2012. I guess there’s some talk his health isn’t great; But, that’s just conjecture. Now with his extension, that nonsense is over.
Thompson sure has had his critics in Packer land. I think the Favre situation & Thompson’s unwavering approach to personal decisions has caused some over zealous criticism.
On the Favre stuff with Thompson, I’m sure you’ve talked about it a lot, like every Packer fan on a message board. I don’t want to talk about it anymore, but I’ll say this. When it all went down, I was 50-50 on the subject. Now with all the things that have come out & accrued the last 3 seasons, I’m 99.99% on Thompson’s side. Still, there are diehard Packer Favre fans that will criticize Thompson on the subject & let it carry over to other subjects.
The other thing I think frustrates some Packer fans is Thompson’s steadfast way of acquiring talent. He will not over pay for free agents & won’t bring in players that won’t fit in the locker room. He’s passed on some good players that statistically could have helped the Packers. This has frustrated me a couple times, too; But, I’ve always respected his approach- especially now
