Beanie's future not affected by Week 1 start
Wednesday, September 2, 2009 | Feedback | Print Entry
Since too many fantasy owners love the rookies a bit too much, I found this Ken Whisenhunt quote/flub from the Arizona Republic discussed on many a message board today:
"Beanie [Wells] was anxious to get in there because he sees the opportunity to start or to play a lot slipping away."
Hmm, that's kind of interesting, no? Whisenhunt said this to reporters after Friday night's game, when his rookie running back looked really good in breaking a few big runs and scoring two touchdowns. Then the coach realized what he had said and quickly backtracked, talking about using the best player, how good competition can be for everyone, normal coachspeak. Tim Hightower is scheduled to start in Week 1 and maybe well beyond, but I don't think there's much question about which fellow is the future at running back for the Arizona Cardinals. Whisenhunt knows it. Don't we all know it? Just don't assume that future comes in 2009.
