Despite his uncertain future, Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is trying to avoid the distractions.
Jackson said he wasn't fazed earlier this week by an ESPN report of a "schism" in the locker room, with some Vikings players supposedly favoring Jackson as the starter over Brett Favre.
"I don't listen to that stuff," Jackson said Friday after practice. "We all know the decision has already been made, as far as the leader of our team, as far as the quarterback position. Everybody is pretty much behind him, and trying to support him and trying to get him caught up with everything we're trying to do around here as far as the offense goes.
"There's not too much he's got to learn because he's been in the offense a long, long time, probably just as long as I've been living," Jackson said. "I just want to support him and try to get better myself, try to watch him and ask as many questions as possible."
If Jackson isn't released or traded, he could find himself in a position as the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart behind Favre and Sage Rosenfels.
Jackson, though, said he doesn't want to think about that now and that he's focused on the exhibition game Monday night at Houston.
Still, he knows his teammates have confidence in him.
"We've been here for 3 1/2 years now together," Jackson said. "We work together, we do a lot of things together. They see the way I work, the way I come out here every day trying to get better. They see the progression. Right now, my confidence is very high in myself."
Berrian getting better: Vikings coach Brad Childress said receiver Bernard Berrian is coming along and could play Monday in Houston.
"He's progressing," Childress said. "To put a percentage on where he's at, you always have to be careful. Guys will tell you when they're ready to go back.
"He's pushing through."
Asked about Berrian's chances to play against the Texans, Childress said, "He's got a chance to get there.
"We've got a lot of time left."
Berrian has not practiced in full this week, but he has participated in certain parts.
Asked if he will play Monday, Berrian said, "I have no idea. You have to ask Chilli about that."
Briefly: When asked about Favre's conditioning, Childress said, "You have to ask him.
"Not bad. He's been running stadium stairs there. I'm not sure he was ever a world-class long-distance guy, with lungs like Kip Keino from Kenya, or anything like that."
Keino was a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
Receiver Glenn Holt has signed with the Detroit Lions, his agent Drew Rosenhaus said on his Twitter account.
Holt was released Thursday by the Vikings.
