The terms community-based organization and nonprofit organization are not interchangeable, although many NPOs are CBOs. If the organization is community-based, it is totally appropriate to refer to it as such in grant proposals. It is most relevant to funders who are particularly interested in supporting such types of organizations. If a funder is not interested in making grants to CBOs, it does not matter what they are called -- they're not interested. I don't see that the semantics here are particularly relevant; it is who the organization is and what it does that are important to grantmakers. Does anyone else have anything to add to this? Sheryl
