I think fundraisers, like people in most other professions, want to build a sense of community and give their profession a certain status. Hence the "certification" of fundraising professionals and the annual events and trainings.
There are however, many novice fundraisers who are roped into trainings by profiteers who will try to convince these novitates that they must attend a certain training to gather thwe secrets that will make them successful.
