I was at a Philanthropy seminar last night and the instructor, the president of our local AFP, noted an interesting statistic: only 1 in 8 grant proposals are awarded. Also, the national average grant award was approximately $7,000.
So, if we plug those numbers into Mark's original scenario, 50 proposals would generally yield on 6.25 successful awards for a possible total of $43,750. This return is much lower than his original, possibly arbitary, example.
