Non-profits get grants because the applicant has been able to show that the program serves a public need. The bigger the need - the better the chances. I'm not sure what need your farm would serve other than to provide you as an individual with property and income and a handful of livestock with a home. Do you have some greater public purpose that just isn't coming across?
