It sounds like you are working on part of the equation by making the community more aware of your work. About the only meaningful way you could still explore is to see if anyone involved with your organization knows someone on the board of one of the foundations. You can then ask your contact to approach the foundation in a collegial manner to determine any interest at all.
That said, most, if not all, of these foundations do not accept unsolicited proposals because, quite frankly, THEY DON'T WANT UNSOLICITED PROPOSALS. They may feel committed to certain charities or they already investigate new grantees on their own. I think you might spend too much energy pursuing these foundations with little return so be very careful if you attempt it.
